FREYR Institute is an independent nonprofit knowledge and education institute that develops evidence-informed educational resources, training programmes and European cooperation initiatives, translating knowledge into practical learning for individuals, professionals and communities.
Our mission is to make reliable knowledge practical, understandable and useful.
We create learning materials, promote human rights literacy, strengthen responsible global citizenship, advance lifelong wellbeing, and foster intercultural dialogue. We aim to expand horizons, deepen understanding, and support people in turning knowledge into ideas, ideas into meaningful action, values into conscious choices, and choices into lasting impact.
We are driven by a belief in the unique blend of strengths and abilities of every person, individual freedom, lifelong growth, mutual respect, and freedom of choice. We encourage everyone to challenge assumptions, transform diversity into a source of strength, demand respect for human rights, think beyond boundaries, and drive change where it is needed. We believe that together we shape a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future—not one determined by circumstances, but by the conscious choices we make today, the values we uphold, and the actions we take.
FREYR's activities are developed around three interconnected pillars that we believe are essential to human development:
FREYR: Our Name - Our values
FREYR is more than a name. It is an acronym that reflects the core values at the heart of our institute, guiding our vision and our work. Each letter embodies one of our core values, expressed through a guiding principle that shapes everything we do.
F – Frihed / Freedom
The freedom to make your own choices and be yourself—as long as your choices do not harm yourself, others or the planet.
R – Respekt / Respect
Respect for yourself, for others, and for our shared home—Planet Earth.
E – Enhed / Unity
Unity, because we are all part of the same world. Let us build on what we share, embrace our differences, and create bridges across cultures, perspectives and communities.
Y – Ydelse / Be the Best of Yourself
Strive to be the best version of yourself—because you own your journey, and your growth benefits both you and those around you.
R –Retfærdighed / Justice, Fairness
Justice, grounded in fairness, equality and non-discrimination for all.
FREYR - A Journey of Human Development: Know - Connect - Thrive
1. ⚖️Know: Our Journey begins with Human Rights, rights everyone has just because we exist as human beings, not granted. They are universal rights because they are inherent to us all, regardless of nationality, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status.
2. 🌍 Connect: Nexr step is Global Citizenship, where we discover how to live in an interconnected world, acknowledging that local actions can have global consequences. As global citizens we think critically, respect diversity, participate actively in local and international communities, and contribute to a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world.
3. 🌟Thrive: At least, but not last, we flourish through Wellbeing, developing skills and habits to lead healthy, meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Together, these three intterconnected dimensions provide the foundation for all of FREYR's activities, projects and initiatives, turning knowledge into meaningful action.

International cooperation for local change
FREYR Institute brings together human rights, global citizenship, wellbeing, informal education and community engagement through an interdisciplinary, evidence-informed approach. We listen, learn, explore different perspectives and develop solutions that create lasting value.
Our EACEA and Erasmus+ projects are co-funded by European Union, and aim to strengthen local communities and connect them with other communities. We also implement Nordplus projects for educational cooperation with other organisations from the Nordic and Baltic countries.
By combining international cooperation with local action, we help transform knowledge into opportunities that benefit individuals, organisations and communities.
