Wellbeing Across the Lifespan

At FREYR, wellbeing is not a destination. It is an ongoing journey.
It reflects relationships with yourself, with others, and with the world around you.
It is a lifelong journey: from childhood to older adulthood, every stage of life brings unique opportunities, challenges and transitions that shape how we learn, grow, connect and thrive.

At FREYR Institute, we believe that wellbeing should be nurtured throughout life. Supporting wellbeing means creating environments where people can develop their strengths, build meaningful relationships, remain active and engaged, and continue learning at every age. Our approach recognises that wellbeing is dynamic. It evolves as our needs, experiences and circumstances change, requiring different forms of support across the lifespan.

OUR LIFESPAN APPROACH

  1. Childhood
Childhood lays the foundation for lifelong wellbeing. Safe environments, positive relationships, play, learning and emotional development help children build confidence, resilience and healthy habits that support them throughout their lives.
Explore our Kids Well-being .Tips for parents.

2. Youth
Time of rapid change and opportunity. Young people develop their identity, independence and aspirations while facing educational, social and digital challenges. Promoting mental wellbeing, resilience, participation and inclusion empowers young people to reach their full potential.
Explore our Youth Well-being page.

3. Ageing
Growing older offers opportunities for continued learning, contribution and new experiences, while also adapting to life's transitions. Wellbeing in ageing aims to maintaining quality of life.
Explore our Wellbeing in Ageing page and our Erasmus+ Women's Health Matters Project aiming to support women in all stages of menopause.

Wellbeing across the lifespan is strengthened by many interconnected factors, including:
  • active and healthy lifestyles;
  • mental and emotional resilience;
  • supportive relationships and social inclusion;
  • lifelong learning and personal development;
  • meaningful participation in community life and opportunities to contribute or volunteer;
  • safe and inclusive environments;
  • staying connected with peers, friends.
When these dimensions are supported together, individuals and communities are better equipped to flourish.

Reflect:
  • What currently contributes most to your wellbeing?
  • Which area of your life receives the least attention?
  • What small change could you make this week?

FREYR Commitment
FREYR Institute promotes a holistic approach to wellbeing by developing educational programmes, community initiatives and partnerships that encourage active participation, lifelong learning, inclusion and social connectedness.
By supporting people at every stage of life, we aim to help build healthier, more resilient and more inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
